Serbia: where to start a parent's D visa application
Serbia's government portal brings the route and document list together. The key detail is that a parent is not included automatically, but may be recognised as an immediate family member in exceptional circumstances.
What the official route confirms
The Welcome to Serbia page for a D visa based on family reunification includes a section for family members of Serbian citizens and foreign nationals with temporary or permanent residence. An application can be made through the government eVisa portal after registration.
The core list includes a passport, photograph, invitation letter, proof of funds, health insurance and a birth certificate translated by a certified court interpreter. The diplomatic or consular office may request additional evidence.
Why the family connection is not enough
For a parent, the important clause is exceptional recognition as an immediate family member. The official guide asks for evidence that adequate family care is not available in the country of origin and that, because of their health, the applicant cannot meet their own needs.
This is not a guaranteed approval or a general dependent-parent visa. A family needs to document both the relationship and the real support situation.
Build a working file before ordering certified translations
Start with a draft evidence map. It will show what is missing and which points need confirmation from the consular office.
- The adult child's status in Serbia and the intended residential address.
- Proof of relationship and consistent spelling of names across all documents.
- Evidence of the current living situation and available support in the country of origin.
- Medical or social-service documents describing functional support needs without unnecessary sensitive detail.
- A plan for funds, insurance and day-to-day support after arrival.
One question the visa form will not ask
Who will make everyday decisions after the move: the parent, the adult child, or the family together? Agree on this before applying. Legal dependency should not quietly become a loss of choice, privacy or control over daily life.
Put it into practice
Your next step
Open the official family-member section and mark every requirement as: ready, needs translation, or needs a question to the consular office. Do not pay for the complete translation package until the route has been confirmed for your family's circumstances.
