Moving a parent is about more than a visa

We map official country routes, check healthcare and practical support, and help families agree on a new way of living without quietly taking away a parent's independence.

01

A legal route

Who can apply, on what basis, and which evidence the government actually asks for.

Where to start, country by country

A card is not immigration advice. It identifies the first decision point and links directly to a government service.

Check first

Whether you can document both the lack of adequate family care in the country of origin and support needs linked to the parent's health.

CY

Cyprus

The route depends on the sponsor

A dependent parent's route differs depending on whether the adult child is Cypriot, an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen, or holds another type of residence status.

Check first

Identify the adult child's exact status first, then use the matching family-member or visitor category on the Migration Department website.

IL

Israel

A dedicated route for one parent

The Population and Immigration Authority has a specific status procedure for one parent of an Israeli citizen, with strict age and family-composition conditions.

Check first

Use procedure 5.2.0033, version 10 of 19 May 2026. The Hebrew page lists 62 for mothers and 64 for fathers; the English service page still shows older thresholds.

CA

Canada

Extended visits; sponsorship paused

The Super Visa supports extended visits by parents and grandparents. Canada paused new intake under the permanent Parents and Grandparents Program in July 2026.

Check first

Separate a temporary visit from permanent residence: they involve different eligibility tests, income evidence, insurance and timelines.

GB

United Kingdom

A narrow Adult Dependent Relative route

The route is for an adult who needs long-term personal care that is unavailable or unaffordable in the country where they live.

Check first

Test both requirements early: the need for long-term personal care and the sponsor's ability to provide accommodation and support without public funds.

AU

Australia

Several parent visa categories

Australia has permanent and temporary parent routes, but costs, eligibility and waiting times differ substantially.

Check first

Decide whether the goal is a temporary stay or permanent migration, then check the current queue and cost for the relevant subclass.

AE

United Arab Emirates

Rules depend on status and emirate

The federal portal distinguishes family sponsorship by residents from residence routes for relatives of UAE citizens.

Check first

Start with the federal overview, then verify the parent-specific requirements with ICP or the GDRFA for the relevant emirate.
